Interstate 65 South is still closed after a deadly crash at 16th Street North in Birmingham. It's unclear at this time when authorities will reopen the interstate.

A three-vehicle crash on Interstate 65 South in Birmingham left a couple and one of their children dead and sent another child to the hospital Monday night.

The wreck occurred near 16th Street North and has the soutbound lanes shut down at Finley Boulevard (Exit 262B). Police say two 18-wheelers and an SUV were involved in the crash.

Fire officials said one of the 18-wheelers was trying to change lanes when it struck a Ford Explorer, sending it crashing into another tractor-trailer. One of the semis ended up on top of the SUV.

Birmingham police say a mother and father and their child under the age of 2 were killed. A second child, who witnesses described as a toddler, was taken to Children's of Alabama with head injuries.
