Newtown,CT : Bridgeport man charged in Newtown crash on January, Tuesday 2nd 2018

A Bridgeport man turned himself into Newtown police recently after investigators found him at fault for an August car crash that shut down South Main Street for several hours.

Police said James Patrick, 50, was driving southbound on South Main Street on Aug. 25 when he tried to pass a Kenworth dump truck as two lanes merged into one. Patrick, who police said was driving more than 75 mph, hit a curb and crashed into a utility pole. Power lines fell onto the road and dump truck, which caught on fire.

Authorities were forced to close the road for several hours. Patrick was treated for serious injuries in the crash.

Patrick turned himself into police at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 2 on an outstanding warrant. He was charged with failure to wear a seat belt, speeding, reckless driving and improper passing.
