GORDONSVILLE, VA : A man was killed following a single-vehicle accident on Monday, September 11, 2017

A man was killed on Monday morning east of Gordonsville following a single-vehicle accident involving a sanitation truck.

Roger Malone Thompson, 69, of Clarks Grove, died at the scene. Thompson was driving the truck east when it left the roadway and ended up in the south ditch of 110th Street, just west of the street's intersection with 840th Avenue, according to the Freeborn County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff's office was called at 8:18 a.m. with a report of a vehicle on fire and the victim was trapped inside. The reporting party went to a nearby farm and obtained a fire extinguisher and was able to extinguish the fire.

Other first responders were the Minnesota State Patrol, Myrtle Fire Department, Glenville Fire Department, Gold Cross Ambulance and Mayo One helicopter
