Columbia City, IN : Columbia City man hurt in collision with dump truck on Friday morning, July 11, 2014

A Columbia City man was seriously injured Friday morning when his vehicle collided with an Indiana Department of Transportation vehicle north of Columbia City.

Indiana State Police investigating the wreck said that John B. Barry, 43, suffered severe injuries to an arm and was airlifted to Parkview Regional Medical Center. His condition was not available.

State Police report that at about 8 a.m., a dump truck headed south on Indiana 109 allegedly turned into the path of a car driven by Barry. Barry was not able to avoid the collision, State Police said in a news release.

Both men were wearing their seatbelts during the crash. The driver of the dump truck was not hurt and was cited for failing to yield the right of way.

Agencies assisting were the Whitley County Sheriff Department, Thorncreek Township Fire Department, Columbia City Fire Department, Samaritan and All Pro Towing.
