Lincoln, NE : Man dies after passing snowplow, colliding with semi in Dixon County on Monday, January 5, 2015

An Iowa man was killed after his pickup passed a snowplow and collided with a semi in Dixon County around 1 p.m. Monday, according to the Nebraska State Patrol.

Troopers identified the man as 69-year-old Charles Earnest Woods of Spencer.

He was the only passenger in a pickup driving east on U.S. 20 near Laurel, the State Patrol said.

Near the intersection of U.S. 20 and Nebraska 116, Woods passed a snowplow in whiteout conditions and struck the westbound semi, troopers reported.

Paramedics pronounced Woods dead at the scene.

State patrol investigators said seat belts were in use and the air bags deployed.

The semi driver was uninjured.
