NORTHUMBERLAND, NY : Lake George man killed in car-bike accident on Tuesday, 27th March 2018

A Lake George man was killed Tuesday afternoon when the bicycle he was riding collided with a pickup truck on Stonebridge Road, according to State Police.

State Police said Eric Krantz died after the bike he was riding collided with a pickup shortly after 12:30 p.m at the intersection of Stonebridge Road and Purinton Road. Krantz was an avid bicyclist who competed in numerous local races.

State Police said Krantz was riding east on Purinton Road and failed to yield the right of way to a pickup truck that was driving on Stonebridge Road, driven by Nicholas Bechard of Chazy. Bechard was not hurt.

State Police said Moreau Rescue Squad and Gansevoort Fire personnel treated Krantz at the scene.

The truck was headed south and appeared to brake hard, colliding with the bicycle and knocking the rider into a nearby cornfield adjacent to Stonebridge Iron & Steel.

The road was closed between Purinton and Callahan roads for several hours and reopened Tuesday evening.

No charges were filed Tuesday, but investigators from the Wilton station said the crash was still under investigation.

Stonebridge Road is a rural road that runs between two sections of Route 32, north of Schuylerville.
