Syracuse, NY : Motorcyclist killed in crash on I-690 east in Syracuse on Saturday, April 23, 2016
A man was killed Saturday in a motorcycle crash on Interstate 690 in Syracuse, police said.
Syracuse firefighters, police and Rural Metro Ambulance responded around 12:05 p.m. to the crash, which occurred on I-690 east between the Midler Avenue and Thompson Road exits. When crews arrived they found an unresponsive man.
Police said several motorcycles were on the highway together at the time of the crash. At one point one of the motorcyclists, who was riding a 2005 Suzuki, lost control and was thrown off the motorcycle.
Several motorists stopped after the crash to help the motorcyclist before emergency crews arrived, police said. The man died at the scene.
I-690 east was closed from Midler Avenue to Thompson Road until 4:30 p.m. as officers took measurements and collected evidence. Traffic backed up on I-690 to South Townsend Street near downtown Syracuse.
Police said they are not releasing the identity of the deceased until family has been notified. Officers are continuing to investigate the crash and are interviewing witnesses.
