Portales, NM : 35-year-old Jaime Calamaco killed after vehicle crashed into a utility pole on SR 267 near Portales on Friday, January 30, 2015

New Mexico State Police say a man is dead after his vehicle crashed into a utility pole near Portales.

Sgt. Elizabeth Armijo says 35-year-old Jaime Calamaco, of Portales, was traveling westbound on State Road 267 around 6 a.m. Friday when it crossed the eastbound lanes.

According to Armijo, the Chrysler sedan than went off the roadway and struck the pole.

The vehicle overturned and it was determined Calamaco had not been wearing a seatbelt.

Armijo says Calamaco suffered fatal injuries. His body has been taken by the Office of the Medical Investigator to Albuquerque for an autopsy.

Authorities say they have not yet determined if alcohol or drugs was a contributing factor.

The crash investigation remains ongoing.
