Glenwood, IA : 40-year-old man critically injured in a three-vehicle crash in southwest Iowa’s Mills County on Tuesday night, April 12, 2016

A 40-year-old Glenwood, Iowa, man was critically injured Tuesday night in a three-vehicle crash in southwest Iowa’s Mills County.

The Iowa State Patrol said Jeremy Marvel was injured in the 8:15 p.m. crash at U.S. Highway 34 and 288th Boulevard east of Glenwood.

Marvel, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken by medical helicopter to Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.

The patrol said Marvel, who had been eastbound in a 2007 Chevrolet pickup truck, was stopped at Highway 34 and 288th Boulevard waiting to turn north.

Julia Nelson, 41, of Red Oak, was driving a 2014 Volkswagen Golf. Her car also was eastbound on Highway 34 when she took evasive action while approaching Marvel’s pickup. She hit the brake and passed the truck on the right, the patrol said.

An eastbound 2003 Peterbilt semitrailer truck, driven by Keith Ratkovec, 60, of Brainard, Nebraska, struck the Golf and the pickup. The semi clipped the left rear part of the Volkswagen, pushing it off the roadway into the south ditch. The semi also struck Marvel’s pickup, pushing it into the north ditch.

Marvel was trapped in his pickup and had to be cut free, the patrol said. He was listed in good condition Wednesday afternoon.
Nelson and Ratkovec were not injured.
