Maryland Man Dies After Being Hit by Pick-Up Truck

A 19-year-old Tehama County man was killed when he was hit by a pick-up truck.The collision happened at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday on Highway 36 near McCoy Road, west of Red Bluff. The CHP said the pedestrian was walking westbound on Highway 36 east of McCoy Road.Christopher Rathja, 35 of Red Bluff, was driving eastbound in his 1989 Chevrolet pick-up truck at 45-50 mph. Investigators said the pedestrian moved into the lane directly in front of Rathja's vehicle. The pick-up struck the pedestrian, who was pronounced dead at the scene.The name of the victim will not be released until his family was notified.
