Lyndeborough, New Hampshire
A 38-year-old Peterborough woman was arrested at a Manchester hospital Wednesday for felony drunk-driving, shortly after she and two other people sustained serious injuries in a two-car crash on Route 31.
State Police said Rebecca Rodenhiser faces one count of aggravated driving while under the influence in connection with crash, which occurred at about 2 p.m. near 47 Route 31, also known as Forest Road.
They said Lyndeborough police, firefighters and rescue personnel were first to arrive at the scene, where two heavily-damaged vehicles were discovered in the roadway.
“Due to the seriousness of the crash, Lyndeborough personnel requested the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction (CAR) Unit,” according to state police.
The driver of the other car, Joanne VanDeusen, 67, of Greenfield, and a passenger, Abou Sylla, 59, also of Greenfield, also sustained serious injuries, police said. Rodenhiser was taken to Catholic Medical Center, while VanDeusen was transported to Southern New Hampshire Medical Center in Nashua. Sylla, who police said suffered life-threatening injuries, was flown by medical helicopter to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, Mass.
Police said a preliminary on-scene investigation indicated the vehicle Rodenhiser was driving, a 2014 Chevrolet Traverse, was headed north on Route 31 when it crossed over into the southbound lane and collided head-on with VanDeusen’s vehicle, which police described as a 2005 Volvo S40 sedan.
Police closed a section of Route 31 for about four hours – first to allow rescue and medical personnel to assist the victims and transport them from the scene, then so that members of the CAR Unit could conduct their on-scene investigation.
