Authorities have released the name of the Freeport man who was killed in a head-on collision with a semitrailer Tuesday afternoon.
George D. Machado, who was 52, died after his vehicle drifted into oncoming traffic on U.S. Highway 90 just after 1 p.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene.The truck driver, 59-year-old Reginald McCullough, suffered serious injuries, according to an updated news release from the Florida Highway Patrol.
A traffic homicide investigation is underway, the FHP said.
Machado’s 2005 Volkswagen Passat sustained $10,000 in damage. The truck sustained about $25,000 in damage.
