Dayton, TN :17-year old dies in Rhea County car crash on Friday, July 10th 2015

A 17-year old girl died in a single vehicle car accident at 1:15 Friday afternoon in Dayton, the Tennessee Highway Patrol has confirmed.Emily Cheeks was driving a 2007 Toyota traveling north on Highway 303 when it veered to the right into a ditch line. The vehicle then struck a culvert, causing it to roll several times, according to the Tennessee Motor Vehicle Fatality Report. The driver was ejected through the sunroof and succumbed to her injuries on the scene.She was not wearing a seat belt at the time, and the officer's opinion in the report said if Cheeks had been wearing a seat belt, it would have made a difference in the crash.No follow up report will be ordered, the report said.
