Cranston, R.I : One dead after SUV crashes, catches on fire in Rhode Island Saturday, September 17, 2016
At least one person is dead after a fiery car crash in Rhode Island.
Cranston police say the SUV was engulfed in flames when they responded to the crash shortly before 1:30 a.m. Saturday.
A preliminary investigation indicates a GMC Envoy was being driven above 90 mph when it left the road, striking a traffic control signal pole and a cement block wall. Evidence indicates the SUV then caught fire.
Police believe there was a single occupant in the SUV. Responding officers were unable to get near the vehicle due to intense heat and flames followed by small explosions. The Cranston Fire Department extinguished the vehicle.
Investigators are working to identify the victim.
The crash remains under investigation.
