Mission, TX : 2-year-old girl died in a two-vehicle crash near the intersection of Jovanna Street and Moorefiled Road on Monday morning, Sep 21, 2015

A 2-year-old girl died at the hospital Monday morning following a two-vehicle crash Sunday in Mission, investigators said.
The unrestrained 2-year-old girl was traveling in a car with two other passengers when they were struck by a Ford F-150 truck near the intersection of Jovanna Street and Moorefiled Road, according to Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman Sgt. Johnny Hernandez.
The truck was driven by a man under the influence who failed to yield as he turned left onto Jovanna Street from Moorefield road, Hernandez said.
The driver of the truck was arrested for intoxication assault but his charges will be upgraded to intoxication manslaughter, Hernandez said. The status of the other car's passengers was unknown at the time of this report.
"I would like to remind the public of the importance of having everyone in the vehicle secured with a safety belt or a child safety seat," Hernandez wrote in a news release.
In 2014, 2,587 motor vehicle crashes occurred in Texas in which unrestrained vehicle occupants sustained fatal or serious injuries, according to Hernandez.
