Pennock, MN : One person dead and another injured in semi collision in west of Pennock on Friday morning, January 2, 2015

One motorist is dead and another seriously injured as the result of the accident Friday morning west of Pennock.

Shawn C. Murphy, 34, of Graceville, was eastbound on U.S. 12 in a four-door Cadillac sedan at 6:47 a.m. when the vehicle crossed the center line and collided with an oncoming tractor-trailer, the Minnesota State Patrol said.

Murphy was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the semi, Ronald J. Bloomquist, 48, of Kandiyohi, was transported to Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar for what were described as serious injuries.

The accident remains under investigation by the State Patrol.

Road conditions were reported as being dry at the time of the accident.

The portion of U.S. 12 near the accident scene was closed Friday morning while crews cleared wreckage and was reopened about noon.
