ELKHART, IN : Single vehicle accident claims life of Elkhart man on Monday, August 28, 2017
Early Monday morning a 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche left the roadway striking a tree leaving the passenger deceased.
According to Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department 21-year-old Kyle Slessman, of Elkhart, was driving westbound on C.R. 20 west of Woodrow Road at approximately 5:50 a.m. west of Elkhart city limits. Slessman lost control of the Avalanche which ran off the north side of the road and struck a tree.
The passenger, 22-year-old Sterling Hunt, of Elkhart, was sitting in the rear seat on the driver's side and suffered lacerations to his face. He was transported to South Bend Memorial hospital by Baugo Township ambulance. Hunt was pronounced deceased at Memorial Hospital.
According to the accident report, Slessman consented to a blood sample for testing at Elkhart General Hospital. Those results are pending at this time.
The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department Crash Investigation Team responded to the scene. The crash is still under investigation. No citations were issued at the scene.
