Copperopolis,CA : An 88-year-old woman was killed on April, friday 14th 2017

An 88-year-old woman was killed last Friday when she was struck head-on by traffic heading in the opposite direction along O’Byrnes Ferry Road, a press release from the California Highway Patrol said.

The woman, confirmed Monday by Calaveras County Coroner Kevin Raggio as Copperopolis resident Margaret Howery, was travelling south of Copper Cove Drive at approximately 3:25 p.m. when she traversed the double yellow lines to the southbound lane for an unknown reason in her 2007 Suzuki Forenza.

The speed she was driving was not known.

A second driver, Bert Darling, 61, of Twain Harte, was unable to avoid Howery with his 2002 Dodge Ram. He suffered minor injuries as a result of the incident and was taken by ambulance to the Sonora Regional Medical Center.

Both drivers were wearing safety belts. Neither alcohol nor drugs were considered factors in the incident.
