Kankakee County, IL : Five people injured in hit-and-run crash near Grant Park on Saturday night, August 6, 2016
Five people were injured late Saturday night in a head-on, hit-and-run crash about a mile south of Grant Park on Illinois Route 17.
At about 11:20 p.m., a vehicle with dealership plates crossed the centerline and struck a Lexus head-on. The driver then fled the crash on foot.
Grant Park Fire Chief Rich Shronts said his department had to call in a box alarm for ambulances to assist the five victims, who are expected to live.
"The Lexus was completely destroyed," he said. "We had to extricate a couple of them. All of the victims were responsive."
Shronts said emergency responders searched nearby cornfields for more than an hour, but were unable to find the suspect.
