Flagstaff, AZ : Two killed in 180 crash identified on Monday, January 16th 2017
Two Flagstaff men were killed in a crash on Highway 180 Monday afternoon, Department of Public Safety officials said.
Mathew Thomas Reyes, 23, who was identified as the driver of the truck, and Toriano Carbajal, 24, a passenger in the truck, were pronounced deceased on the scene, said James Carne, a spokesman for DPS.
The fatal crash occurred at about 4:30 p.m., after officials said the truck was involved in a hit-and-run crash on Snowbowl Road. Carne said the truck was seen driving eastbound in the westbound lane of 180, passing several vehicles before it sideswiped an SUV and a bicyclist.
The truck then veered off the roadway and struck the tree, killing Reyes and Carbajal and injuring another passenger, who was transported to Flagstaff Medical Center with serious injuries, Carne said.
The bicyclist was also taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries and the driver of the SUV that was struck was uninjured, Carne said.
Carne said the department is still investigating the crash, but they have not ruled out speed or impairment as factors.
