Renton, WA : Motorcycle officer severely injured in crash with car at SW 19th Street on Monday afternoon, Oct 26, 2015

A Renton motorcycle officer was seriously injured in a crash Monday afternoon while on his way to investigate another crash that resulted from a nearby burglary.

The officer was heading south on Lind Ave. SW just after noon when he collided head-on with a car getting ready to turn westbound at SW 19th Street, said Cmdr. Dave Leibman with Renton Police.

The 44-year-old officer has been taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle in "serious to critical" condition, according to Renton Fire Department officials. Renton police say the officer is expected to survive, but has several broken bones and will require surgery.

The driver of the car wasn't injured, Leibman said, adding it doesn't appear the driver was impaired in any way.

Leibman didn't have any further details on the burglary or the original crash.
