Lake Wales, FL : Polk woman injured when car crashes through restaurant in Lake Wales on Monday evening, August 11, 2014
A woman was injured while celebrating her 95th birthday when a car crashed through the restaurant she was dining in with her husband in Lake Wales on Monday evening.
Genevieve Sheldon and her husband, Carl Sheldon, 81, were dining at L’Incontro Italian Cuisine at 35 State Road 60 West in Lake Wales at about 4:19 p.m. when a Jeep Liberty crashed through the front wall of the restaurant.
Witnesses reported the driver of the Jeep, 22-year-old Conor E. Sullivan of Lake Wales was traveling eastbound on State Road 60 when he lost control of his vehicle, drove through the parking lot and crashed through the front wall of the restaurant.
Police report that Carl and Genevieve Sheldon were seated inside the restaurant near the wall that Sullivan crashed through.
Officials confirm that Carl and Genevieve were both transported to Lakeland Regional Medical Center and their injuries consist of cuts, internal pain and disorientation.
They are both reported to be in stable condition according to authorities.
Police report that Sullivan ran from the scene after the crash, but was captured by officers nearby.
Detectives tell us that Sullivan resisted arrest but was taken into custody. Sullivan was taken to Lake Wales Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
Authorities have charged Sullivan with leaving the scene of an accident with injuries, driving with a suspended license and resisting arrest.
Investigators are continuing to investigate and state that more charges are possible.
There were no other injuries reported in the restaurant.
