NAVARRE, FL : Man who runs red light killed in collision on Tuesday, January, 9th 2018
A 26-year-old Navarre man died Tuesday morning after running a red light on U.S. Highway 98.
Richard G. Litterst was pronounced dead after the 8:30 a.m. wreck at the highway’s intersection with Edgewood Drive.
A traffic homicide investigation is underway.
According to initial reports, Litterst was traveling south on Edgewood Drive when the accident occurred. He went around stopped traffic to enter the intersection, striking a truck driven by Geri D. Morse, a 30-year-old Navarre woman who was traveling west on 98.
Morse had a 1-year-old and a 2-year-old in the car at the time. Neither she nor the children were seriously injured, according to the Florida Highway Patrol media release.
The front of the truck hit the driver’s side of the smaller car, pushing it onto the south shoulder of the road, the report said.
Everyone was properly restrained when the accident took place.
Litterst was taken to Gulf Breeze Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Passing motorists saw what appeared to be bystanders performing CPR on Litterst.
