Saint Paul, MN : Multiple crashes reported on I-35 near Freeborn County on Thursday, January 19th 2017
Icy road conditions might have contributed to a number of crashes on Interstate 35 in Freeborn County late Thursday night and early today.
Manal Wazwaz, 28, of New Brighton, was northbound on Interstate 35 at 11:15 p.m. when she lost control of her vehicle, which ran into the median, according to the Minnesota State Highway Patrol. Wazwaz was ejected from the car and was found on the southbound shoulder.
Wazwaz was transported to Albert Lea—Mayo Clinic Health System. The Freeborn County Sheriff's Office, Glenville Fire Department and the Minnesota Department of Transportation assisted state patrol at the scene.
A few hours later, more crashes were reported on I-35.
At 3:06 a.m. ,Timothy Bates, 50, of Knoxville, Tenn., was southbound in a semi-tractor pulling a trailer when he lost control of the truck and rear-ended Jennifer Anderson, 27, of Peoria, Ill. Anderson and her 3-year-old male passenger, were also headed south on I-35.
Anderson's vehicle was pushed off the road into a ditch, while Bates' semi and trailer came to a rest in the center median.
Both Anderson and the 3-year-old sustained what were believed to be non-life threatening injuries, and were transported to Owatonna Hospital. Bates did not have any apparent injuries.
The Freeborn County Sheriff's Office and Geneva Fire/Rescue both assisted state patrol.
