ANDERSON COUNTY, TX : Jacksonville woman dies in fatal car crash on U.S. Highway 79 on Sunday, 30th September 2018

A 65-year-old Jacksonville woman was pronounced dead at the scene following a one-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 79.

According to Sgt. Jean Dark, public information officer for DPS-Tyler District, troopers responded to a one-vehicle crash on U.S. 79 in Anderson County, four miles north of Palestine.

Preliminary reports indicated that Vicky Carol Hewitt, the driver of a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt, was traveling south along U.S. 79 “when, for an undetermined reason, the vehicle left the road traveling to the right, crossed Anderson County Road 363 and collided with several trees.”

The vehicle rolled over, coming to rest in a bar ditch.

Hewitt was pronounced at the scene by Anderson County Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace Judge James Todd and was transported to Rhone Funeral Home in Palestine, Dark said.

The crash remains under investigation.
