Grand Isle, LA : Raceland man dies in Grand Isle crash on Wednesday, 26th February, 2020
A 48-year-old Raceland man was killed Wednesday after his truck crashed into a bayou near Grand Isle, police said.
The crash claimed the life of Jimmy Hebert Jr., Grand Isle Police Chief Laine Landry said.
Hebert had been parasailing at Elmer’s Island before crashing into a bayou just off of La. 1, Landry said.
“He was parasailing in the little bay at Elmer’s Island,” the chief said. “He then left the beach and headed northbound on La. 1. He was traveling at a high rate of speed. There is a hairpin 90-degree turn that he couldn’t make and left the roadway and entered into Thunder Bayou. There was an eyewitness who saw the accident.”
Hebert drowned after his truck sank into the water, Landry said. The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office provided assistance at the scene.
