Killeen, TX : Police chase ends in crash on Tuesday, July 25, 2017
An attempted traffic stop on Avenue E in Killeen turned into a high-speed chase that led into Coryell County Tuesday morning, according to Killeen police spokeswoman Ofelia Miramontez.
An officer pulled over a 2003 Oldsmobile Alero with a male driver and female passenger around 10:15 a.m. The officer asked for identification and walked to the police vehicle to run the driver’s information.
After the officer stepped away, the driver sped off, according to Miramontez, and made his way toward Copperas Cove.
Killeen police followed the Alero on Farm-to-Market 116 toward Gatesville, and the Coryell County Sheriff’s Department joined the chase. The driver exceeded 100 miles per hour, according to the sheriff’s department.
The sheriff’s department attempted to use a spike strip to stop the Alero, but the driver avoided it. Soon after, the driver lost control in front of Central Texas Powder Coating at 1370 FM 116, and the car flipped onto its roof, Miramontez said.
Drugs and a handgun were found in the car, according to Miramontez. The two occupants of the car were treated for minor injuries and placed under arrest. Police did not release their names.
The investigation has been taken over by the sheriff’s department.
