One person was killed in a serious crash that shut down eastbound Route 322 (The Conchester Highway) near I-95 Thursday morning, officials said.
The westbound lanes are squeezing by. Traffic has been backed up in both directions on Route 322 for hours.
The crash, which involved a tractor-trailer and another vehicle, occurred between Route 452 and I-95, around 5:30 a.m. Early reports from the scene indicate a Jeep and an empty car carrier collided in the eastbound lanes. The big rig then partially slammed through the concrete median divider.
The identify of the victim has not yet been released. It took emergency crews working with the Jaws of Life more than an hour to free the victim from the wreckage.
It is now yet known what caused the crash.
Police and first responders remain on the scene.
