LAYTON, UT : UHP closes I-15 lane in Layton after 10 crashes near construction zone on Saturday, 15th October 2016
A construction zone near Hill Field Road on Interstate 15 in Layton saw 10 crashes within a few hours on Saturday, Oct. 15, leading officers to close a lane of traffic.
The crashes happened before 1:30 p.m. near mileposts 330 and 331 in the southbound direction, Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Lawrence Hopper said. The left lane of southbound I-15 is now closed near milepost 331 until 6:30 p.m.
The crashes were all minor and no one was injured, Hopper said.
The area is where traffic merges from Hill Field Road onto I-15 southbound, Hopper said. Motorists going southbound are not getting enough notice to slow down because the merge area is abrupt due to construction.Troopers are in the area to get traffic to slow down until the construction company can post more signs warning motorists to slow down, Hopper said.
Hopper said it is good practice for drivers to slow down when they can see they are approaching a construction zone because lane shifts and merge lanes can change.
