Miami, FL : Summerfield man dies in crash on South U.S. 441 on Thursday, 26th December, 2019

A man who was thrown from a pickup truck that rolled over on South U.S. 441 early Thursday morning died after he was hit by three other vehicles.

Jacob G. Lowe, 22, of Summerfield, was taken to Ocala Regional Medical Center after the crash and died at the hospital, according to Florida Highway Patrol media release.

Troopers said Lowe was driving a 2006 Ford F-150 south in the inside lane on U.S. 441 in Summerfield. Three other vehicles, two semis and a 2012 Mazda, were traveling north on U.S. 441 in the northbound inside lane.

For an unknown reason, authorities said, Lowe veered out of his lane and into the median, where the pickup overturned and threw him into the northbound lane.

Lowe was not wearing a seat belt, trooper said.

The drivers of the other vehicles, Tina Collelo, 48, of Homosassa, Craig Cady, 41, of Dunnellon, and Laketa Brown, 36, of Leesburg, slowed and tried to avoid hitting Lowe, troopers said.

So far this year, more than 90 people have been killed on county roadways, including in the cities of Ocala, Belleview and Dunnellon.
