Victorville, CA : Several people injured after a crash involving two vehicles on Nisqualli Road on Monday evening, May 23, 2016
Authorities are investigating a crash that left several people injured, including young children, in Victorville Monday evening.
A crash involving two vehicles was first reported at 5:30 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Third Avenue and Nisqualli Road. Victorville Sheriff’s Sgt. Ken Lutz said several parties were reported to be injured and the crash shut down Nisqualli Road between Third and Second avenues as authorities investigated the scene.
Deputy Brett Haynes with the Sheriff’s Department Major Accident Investigation Team said the crash occurred as a woman in a white Kia van was headed south on Third Avenue approaching the intersection at Nisqualli Road. For unknown reasons, she drifted into the northbound lane and sideswiped a Kia sedan, Haynes said.
The van then continued heading south, but again entered the northbound lanes and ran a red light at the intersection, according to witnesses. It then T-boned a beige Chevy Tahoe headed west on Nisqualli Road, Haynes said.
San Bernardino County Fire Department Captain Mike McClintock said seven people were reported to be injured, with four initially classified as “immediate patients.” Three people were airlifted while the rest were transported by ground ambulance to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, Loma Linda University Medical Center, and Desert Valley Hospital.
Haynes said the woman and two children in the Kia van reported injuries and were airlifted. The driver of the Tahoe, two more children and another party were transported by ground ambulance to a local hospital. All injuries were minor and non-life threatening, Haynes said.
Nisqualli Road remained closed between Third and Second avenues for several hours as the Sheriff’s Department MAIT team responded to the scene.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s MAIT team.
