Chicago, IL : 62-year-old woman dies four days after Frankfort crash on Sunday, February 12th 2017
A Manteno woman died Sunday night, four days after she was injured in a crash in southwest suburban Frankfort.
A blue 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer was northbound on U.S. 45 just north of Manhattan Monee Road about 6:45 a.m. on Feb. 8 when the driver lost control and began to skid on the icy road, according to Illinois State Police.
The driver swerved to the left across the center dividing line in front of a gray 2009 Nissan Murano that was heading south, police said.
The Nissan’s front end struck the passenger side of the Chevrolet, then the Nissan skidded sideways and crashed into a ditch, police said.
The driver of the Chevrolet was taken to Riverside Hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries, police said. The driver was cited for driving too fast for conditions.
The driver and passenger in the Nissan were taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox with serious injuries, police said.
The passenger, 62-year-old Laura L. Phelps of Manteno, died at 10:42 p.m. Sunday at the hospital, according to police and the Will County coroner’s office.
The crash remains under investigation.
