LUMBERTON, MS : 2 dead after Lamar Co. crash on Wednesday, 31st January 2024

Two people have died in a crash on U.S. Highway 11 in Lamar County on Wednesday.

According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol, a head-on crash occurred between two vehicles in the 6400 block on U.S. 11 in Lumberton around 5:30 p.m. Both fatalities were the drivers of the vehicles they were in.

Lamar County Coroner Blake Matherene identified the deceased as 30-year-old Christopher Lewis of Lumberton and 59-year-old Susan Copeland of Hattiesburg. The families of both of the victims have been notified.

Copeland was a chemistry teacher at Lumberton High School, according to Lamar County School District Superintendent Dr. Steven Hampton.
