Two people are dead after a crash in Saline County, IL.

According to their preliminary traffic crash investigation, Illinois State Police says the head-on crash happened Sunday evening around 6:40 on US Route 45 at Rays Road.

The crash involved a southbound GMC Sierra, driven by 51-year-old Brenda L. Ward, of Harrisburg, and a northbound GMC Canyon, driven by 69-year-old Bill Ghent, also from of Harrisburg.

The impact of the head-on crash caused both vehicles to go into a ditch on the northwest side of US Route 45.

Ward and 70-year-old Linda Ghent were pronounced deceased at the scene by the Saline County Coroner.

Bill Ghent was taken to a regional hospital. No word on his condition.

The crash investigation is ongoing.
