Monroe, MI : Jefferson students uninjured in crash on May, Friday, 19th 2017
A Jefferson School bus carrying a dozen fifth through eighth graders was rear-ended Friday.
Frenchtown Fire Department responded to the crash, which occurred at 3 p.m. on Cole Rd. at Hemlock. An unidentified SUV and a van were also involved in the crash. According to the fire department, the SUV struck the van, which was pushed into the school bus.
“No kids were hurt,” Supt. Craig Haugen said. “All of parents were notified.”
Mr. Haugen also went to the scene of the crash. He said medical personnel evaluated each child.
The female bus driver was uninjured in the crash.
“She did an exceptional job and handled the situation well and made sure all of the kids were safe,” Mr. Haugen said.
Mr. Haugen said the bus sustained “minor damage.”
“There was some damage to the fender and the glass window to the emergency door was broken,” he said.
In a news release, Frenchtown Fire Department said the drivers of the van and SUV sustained minor injuries.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and Monroe Community Ambulance assisted at the scene.
