MARCOLA, OR : Marcola man dies, 1 injured in crash on Marcola Road on April, Thursday 6th 2017
A Marcola resident died early Thursday in a vehicle crash on Marcola Road that shut down the road to traffic for most of the morning.
Rian Moore, 27, who died at the scene, was the passenger in a 1999 Ford Mustang driven by Chadley Crespo, 24, also of Marcola.
According to Oregon State Police, the Mustang crossed the center line about 3:30 a.m. and went off the road, hitting a driveway and landing on its passenger side.
Moore was not wearing a seatbelt, police said.
Crespo was taken to PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend in Springfield with serious injuries.
Alcohol is believed to be a factor, police said. The investigation is continuing.
The crash occurred between the unincorporated towns of Marcola and Mabel, northeast of Springfield.
After being closed for hours, Marcola Road reopened shortly before 11 a.m.
