Pineville, NC : Man arrested after Pineville police chase ends in violent crash on Saturday night, March 21, 2015

One man was arrested after a chase led to a violent crash involving a police officer near Pineville Saturday night.

Pineville police say the chase started around 11:35 Saturday night on Lancaster Highway. An officer was reportedly trying to stop Dorian Antwoinne Cox for driving a car without headlights on and for suspicion of impaired driving.

According to police, Cox did not stop for the blue lights and siren while driving south on Lancaster Highway towards the Ballantyne area.

Pineville Police Officer Taylor Whitley responded to the scene to assist the pursuing officer.

When Whitley's patrol car passed the intersection of Lancaster Highway and Luggingstone Road, an uninvolved vehicle didn't stop at a stop sign and hit Whitley's car.

The collision caused Whitley's car to jump the curb.

Officer Whitley was taken to CMC-Pineville with minor injuries and has since been released after treatment.

The driver of the vehicle that hit Whitley was also taken to the hospital. Police say charges are pending for that driver.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police were on scene investigating.

Cox was not involved in the crash but was arrested a short time later and charged with a felony charge of fleeing to elude, careless and reckless driving, and driving while impaired.
