Union County, NJ : Girl, 16, killed in crash on County Road 500 West at approximately 70 North in Union Township on Tuesday, 25th September 2018

A 16-year-old girl from Union Township died Tuesday afternoon after her car struck several trees, officials said.

The identity of the girl is being withheld until family is notified, said Porter County Coroner Chuck Harris in a release.

At 2:43 p.m. Tuesday, deputies responded to a single-vehicle crash on County Road 500 West at approximately 70 North in Union Township, according to a release from Jeff Biggs, chief deputy of the Porter County Sheriff’s Department.

A witness told authorities a Mercedes AMG was southbound on County Road 500 West reportedly at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control and skidded off the road and struck several trees, Harris said.
