MAMAKATING, NY : Fatal crash shuts down Route 17 westbound in Sullivan County on Wednesday, 7th September 2016

Authorities say the westbound lanes of Route 17 in Sullivan County are closed because of a fatal accident involving a car and a tractor-trailer.

State police say the crash happened around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday near Exit 112 in the town of Mamakating, on the Orange County border 70 miles northwest of New York City.

Troopers say one person is dead and another has serious injuries.

The highway’s westbound lanes are shut down at Exit 112. It’s not known when they’ll reopen.

Troopers say more details will be released later.
