Cyclist killed, 2nd injured in accident in Newbury New Hampshire
A Newbury cyclist was killed and a second was seriously injured Friday night after a car driven by an 86-year-old Bedford man hit them on Route 103, the police said.
Robert Saturley, 64, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, said Newbury police Cpl. Brad Wheeler. Michael Feeney, 63, also of Newbury, suffered life-threatening injuries and remains in critical condition at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Wheeler said.
Feeney is a probate court judge for Sullivan County, according to Judge David King, head of probate courts for New Hampshire. Feeney has served on the bench for a decade, King said.
The cyclists were headed east on Route 103 near North Peak Village in Newbury when Charles Crosbie hit them around 6:25 p.m. Friday, Wheeler said. Crosbie was also traveling east.
Wheeler said the accident, including what factors contributed to the crash, remains under investigation. Both cyclists were reportedly wearing helmets. Crosbie was not injured, he said.
The Newbury fire and police departments responded to the scene and were assisted by New London Hospital and the Newport ambulance, Wheeler said. Feeney was airlifted to the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.
