Allen County, IN : Semi driver dies in three-vehicle crash on Interstate 469 on Friday December 11 2015
A semi driver was killed after rear-ending another rig on Interstate 469 and causing a three-vehicle crash Friday morning.
The collision, which sparked a fire, happened at 8:30 a.m. in the northbound lanes between Maplecrest Road and Indiana 37 and included a minivan, police said.
Allen County sheriff’s investigators are not sure what led to the crash or what caused the semi driver to rear-end another rig, though traffic was slowed in the area because of an earlier semi crash nearby at the 29.6 mile marker.
The identity of the driver who died was not released. The other driver was not reported injured.
After the semis collided, a minivan was caught up in the fray somehow, and the woman driving it suffered minor injuries. She was taken to a hospital in fair condition.
There were no passengers in any of the vehicles involved, police said.
It is unclear whether anyone involved was wearing seat belts, according to police.
In the immediate aftermath of the crash, authorities were advising motorists that both sides of I-469 were closed and to use alternative routes. Lanes reopened later Friday.
