Fountain Inn,SC : Woman charged with DUI after crashing into barrier, 2 pedestrians in Greenville Co. on March, Wednesday 28th 2018

A woman has been charged in connection with a crash that injured two people, said officials with SC Highway Patrol.

Troopers say this happened at 9:43 a.m. on I-385 NB at the 19 mile marker, less than one mile from Fountain Inn.

Troopers say 31-year-old Pamela Tackett had a juvenile passenger inside her Chevy SUV. Both were seat-belted.

Troopers say Tackett ran off the left side of the interstate, hit the cable barrier and then hit an occupied truck in the median. Troopers say the truck was parked legally in the median.

Troopers say Tackett continued on and hit two pedestrians who were also standing in the median.

The pedestrians were taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital.

"It still doesn't seem real, it's like a nightmare we keep trying to wake up from but it's just awful," said Allison Case, one victim's sister in-law.

Troopers say Tackett and her juvenile passenger were also taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Tackett has been released from the hospital and is currently locked up in Laurens County. The pedestrians, identified as 23-year-old John Howell, of Woodruff, and 28-year-old Zacheriah Ivey, of Spartanburg have devastating injuries.

Family said Ivey is suffering a traumatic brain injury that has him fighting for his life. They are hoping and praying for a miracle so he can go home to his 3-year-old little boy.

"Grayson is just the center of his world. He enjoyed playing Superman and Batman," Case said. "I can't imagine not having...you know, him growing up without his dad and it's just heartbreaking."

Both families said the impact threw their loved ones more than 60 feet, Howell landing on the grass and Ivey in the road. It's an image that had both families choking back tears.

"The devastation he's feeling of his own pain, as a mom I want to take it all," said Yvonne Howell. "I wish I could go in that room and take all his pain away and just put it in myself. I wish that day never happened for him and I know Ms. Ivey feels the same way."

Howell said her son, who many know as JC, is facing multiple surgeries for several shattered bones and that's why the mother stood up in the bond hearing begging the judge to deny Tackett bond.

"These men have been horrified, these men were doing their jobs for their families," she told the judge. "Neither life will ever be the same again."

The judge set Tackett's bond Thursday afternoon at $30,000 for two counts of felony driving under the influence with great bodily injury and $7,000 for one count of child endangerment.
