Matteson,IL: Matteson police officer injured in Friday crash, authorities say on May, Friday 18th 2018
atteson police said Friday that an officer suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries after being involved in a traffic crash early Friday.
The officer, who has been with the department three years, had to be extricated from his squad car and was taken to a local hospital for treatment of a head wound, police said in a news release.
At about 6:30 a.m. Friday, the officer was on patrol and saw a vehicle speeding through a construction zone. The officer, driving west on U.S. 30, was about to pull the speeding vehicle over when, as he went through the intersection with a green light at Matteson Avenue, another vehicle turned in front of him, police said.
The squad hit the vehicle on the passenger side, then it and the squad crashed into two other vehicles, with the squad striking a light pole, according to the release.
Four others involved in the crash were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said. Olympia Fields Police are investigating the crash.
