Two Cumberland County school buses were involved in separate crashes Thursday morning, according to Cumberland County Schools officials.
Emergency officials received a call just after 7 a.m. about a bus crash located at Oak and Gillespie streets. The crash happened when a vehicle struck the door on the right side of the bus door, officials said.The bus has been identified as Cumberland County school bus 829. There were nine children from Ireland Middle School on the bus. No injuries have been reported.
A second bus crash was also reported Thursday morning at Cliffdale and Rim roads around 8:55 a.m. That bus, number 720, was transporting 22 students to Anne Chestnut Middle School, school officials said. Twenty-two students were aboard the bus at the time of the crash and two were transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center as a precautionary measure.
According to police, the bus rear-ended a a vehicle after the light turned green at the intersection. The bus left only a slight scuff to the rear bumper of the vehicle, police said. The driver of the vehicle that was rear-ended was also transported to the hospital.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating the Ireland Middle School crash and Fayetteville police are investigating the Anne Chestnut Middle School collision.
