Salisbury, NC : Scott Hammond, 39, died after a crash on Interstate 85 in Rowan County on Saturday night, Oct 17, 2015

A 39-year-old man has died after a crash on Interstate 85 in Rowan County Saturday night.

Troopers identified the man as Scott Alexander Hammond of Durham. The accident happened around 8:00 p.m. near China Grove on I-85 where three lanes become two. We're told two vehicles were involved in the crash.

Trooper H.T. Sloop with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol said the lane Hammond was traveling in came to an end, and Hammond tried to come back on to the interstate, but side swiped another vehicle. Both vehicles reportedly ended up crashing into the woods off of the road. He said Hammond was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Driver of the other vehicle, 17-year-old Salim Fayeq, was sent to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Sloop.

Troopers don't believe alcohol was a factor in this crash, but they believe speed played a part.
