ELMO, MO : An Elmo man was killed in an accident on Wednesday, November, 8th 2017

An Elmo man was killed Wednesday afternoon in an accident involving a John Deere 310C backhoe-loader.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the incident occurred about 2 p.m. on Bell Road north of 170th Street approximately three miles southwest of Elmo where Michael E. Calfee, 67, was loading brush into the unoccupied loader.

The patrol report stated that the loader, which had been left in gear, began rolling and struck Calfee, who suffered fatal injuries as a result.

The victim was pronounced dead shortly before 6 p.m. by Nodaway County Coroner Vince Shelby. Calfee’s body was taken by the coroner to Bram Funeral Home in Maryville.

Patrol Cpl. B.E. Maudlin was assisted in working the accident by personnel from the Nodaway County Sheriff’s Office.
