Owensboro, KY : Motorist killed in New Hartford Road collision on Wednesday morning, May 25, 2016
A motorist was killed and a Utica man was transported to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital on Wednesday morning after a two-vehicle accident on New Hartford Road just outside of the city limits.
The incident occurred at 10:27 a.m. in the 5200 block of New Hartford Road, just south of College View Middle School. Owensboro Police officers blocked the highway near Owensboro Community & Technical College and diverted drivers away from the accident scene.
Corporal Tyler Free of the Daviess County Sheriff's Department, said Hughston W. Taylor, 31, of Utica, was driving north on New Hartford Road when his Chevrolet Silverado 3500 crossed the center line and struck a van head-on in the southbound lane.
"We believe a medical issue (of Taylor's) possibly caused the collision," Free said.
The van went off the road, sustaining severe damage.
The driver of the van was pronounced dead at the scene. The name of the driver was being withheld by the Daviess County Coroner's Office pending notification of the victim's family.
Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor in the collision, Free said.
Taylor suffered "non-life threatening" injuries in the collision, a sheriff's department press release says. No one else was injured in the incident.
Taylor was listed in "undetermined" condition Wednesday afternoon at OHRH. Rachael Frey, a spokeswoman for Owensboro Health, said "undetermined" means a patient is either waiting to see a physician or is awaiting assessment.
New Hartford Road was closed or about two and a half hours while crews cleared the scene.
