Tucson, AZ : Two people dead and one other injured after a vehicle struck a pole on Interstate 10 in Tucson on Saturday, March 19, 2016

Two people were killed in a four-vehicle collision on eastbound Interstate 10 early this morning, authorities said.

Shortly after 4 a.m., Northwest Fire District responded to a crash between the Avra Valley and Twin Peaks exits, finding seven victims and four heavily-damaged vehicles at the scene, said department spokesman, Capt. Brian Keeley.

Two people were pronounced dead at the scene and one was transported to the hospital. Four people were evaluated by paramedics, but declined to go to the hospital for treatment, Keeley said.

Investigators learned that the two deceased individuals were the sole occupants of the two vehicles involved in the first crash. The other two cars and their occupants were involved in a second collision that happened shortly after, Keeley said.

Eastbound I-10 between Avra Valley Road and Twin Peaks Road was closed for several hours while Arizona Department of Public Safety troopers investigated the scene.
