Miami, OK : Grove woman seriously injured in semi collision on U.S. 60 Highway in Fairland on Wednesday, September 14, 2016
Grove woman Rebekah Shaffer, 19, was seriously injured after a collision with a semi tractor trailer at 5 p.m. Wednesday on U.S. 60 Highway by Mr. D's One Stop in Fairland.
According to Fairland Police Chief Aaron Richardson, Shaffer was driving a 2010 Toyota facing westbound on Highway 60, attempted to turn south onto OK-125 when she hit an oncoming semi tractor trailer.
“Shaffer turned into his path," Richardson said. "He was traveling eastbound on Highway 60 and she turned in front of him. He struck her in the front, lost control and flipped the truck. The truck came to rest in the middle of Highway 60.”

Both drivers were wearing their seat belts and Shaffer's airbags deployed but Williams' had not.
“We didn't see any airbags released in his truck,” Richardson said. “We are unsure if his truck was equipped with airbags. He had to be cut out from his seatbelt. He was still hanging there upside down when the fire department arrived.”
According to Richardson, Shaffer was transported by ambulance to Freeman Hospital West in Joplin for apparent serious injuries. Williams was transported by ambulance to Integris Miami Hospital with apparent minor to moderate injuries.
Richardson said Shaffer was taken into surgery Wednesday evening and Williams was treated and released early Thursday morning.
The highway was shut down for approximately an hour and a half until the truck was removed from the road, Richardson said. Bob Garner Wrecker Service and Sooner Emergency Recovery spent Wednesday night unloading the truck to where it could be moved upright and then removed.
The cause of the accident is currently being investigated by law enforcement officials.
“There are no indications that the truck driver did anything wrong,” Richardson said. “We have yet to talk to the driver of the car before we make a determination.”
Fairland Police Department received assistance from the Wyandotte Nation Tribal Police Department, Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Fairland Volunteer Fire Department and Quapaw Tribe Fire/EMS.
