Troy, OH : One dead, another injurd after a two-vehicle crash in Miami County on Monday morning, July 11, 2016

One person is dead and another is recovering at an area hospital following a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Washington and Eldean Roads Monday morning.

Emergency personnel was dispatched to the area around 9 a.m. on the report of a crash, and one of the vehicles involved was reportedly on fire, according to our partners at the Piqua Daily Call.

Chief Deputy Dave Duchak with the Miami County Sheriff’s Office said Troy firefighters arrived to find the accident. Duchak said that a passer-by came upon the crash, “the vehicle was on fire, it was occupied by a female. The passer-by was able to pull her out of the vehicle, probably saving her life.” Duchak told the Piqua Daily Call.

Duchak said that the female occupant of the second vehicle, a van, was pronounced dead at the scene. She has been identified as Robin L. Supinger, 55, of Piqua.

Initial investigation found that a maroon car was traveling eastbound on Eldean Road and failed to stop at the stop sign. The van was purported to be traveling northbound on Washington Road. The two vehicles struck each other with both ending up in a wheat field and the maroon vehicle caught fire, according to the Piqua Daily Call.

Duchak said as of Monday, there is no indication that the maroon car made any attempt to stop at the stop sign. “There’s no tire marks. There’s no skid marks. There isn’t anything. So we don’t know if it was driver inattention or some other issue.”

The deceased victim was in the van that was struck by the car. The driver of the car was transported aboard CareFlight for treatment. Names of the victims have not yet been released pending notification of family members.

Washington Road was closed for around two hours. The crash remains under investigation.
